Exhilarating biking and spectacular landscapes at Lake Garda

The adventure-seeking mountain biker will find few more memorable destinations than the rugged shores of Lake Garda. The Garda Prealps, some of the southernmost Alps, comprise dozens of peaks of every shape and size. They range from easy climbs of just a few hundred feet to the lofty heights of Monte Cadria at 7,395 – so they’re equally well suited to an hour of riding or a full day.

Something for every rider
Whichever route you take, you'll be rewarded with breath-taking views of the sparkling lake from every vantage point. But the appeal really lies in the endless variety of the trails themselves; they span terrain of every description, from mossy undergrowth to steep rocky inclines. That means you can make a gentle descent or an all-out screamer.

Most rails were sculpted by nature, not by man. So the rider gets a feeling of real character, especially compared to your average bike park.

Running parallel to the lake is the snow-capped mountain range of Monte Baldo. Accessible by cable car from the nearby town of Malcesine – landmarked by a 13th century castle and well worth exploring – it reaches over 7,200 feet with stunning views of the lake to one side and a deep forested gorge to the other. The scenery alone is enough to make the trip for.

That means it’s an unforgettable experience even for family members less comfortable on two wheels. And summer brings temperatures of up 28 degrees – so bring your swimming gear too.
