An experience in Brenzone sul Garda

An experience in Brenzone sul Garda

Sitting at the foot of Monte Baldo is Brenzone sul Garda, a peaceful and magnificent base for exploring Lake Garda and the surroundings. With picturesque towns and villages as well as boundless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, you will quickly understand why Brenzone is one of Europe's most popular destinations for outdoor recreation.

Covering a not too small area along the northeast shore of Lake Garda, Brenzone is made some villages including Assenza, Castello, Castelletto, Magugnano, Porto and Sommavilla. There are dozens of towns and villages dotting the mountain landscape and overlooking Italy's largest lakes. The municipality of Brenzone sul Garda was only formed in the middle of the twentieth century when Castelletto, Brenzone’s largest town, joined with Castello, Marniga and Prada.

Although a relatively new city, there has been a human presence in Brenzone since the Bronze Age and rupestrian figures are still found in Castelletto. There are also ancient Roman sites, including the Church of San Zeno. Dating from the twelfth century, the church has Roman frescoes along with markings dating to the Byzantine era. Other beautiful religious sites include the Church of San Nicola, the Church of Castelletto, the Church of Sant’Antonia in Biaza, and the Church of San Pietro in Vincoli.

With the best of Lake Garda and Mount Baldo at its doorstep, this enchanting destination is popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Brenzone has some of the best fishing opportunities on Lake Garda. A fixture in the local cuisine is lake fish, including carp, whitefish, pilchard and trout. Local dishes are also inspired by mountain ingredients, such as truffles, mushrooms and chestnuts from Mount Baldo. One of Brenzone’s specialties is bigoi co le agole, a hard wheat-based pasta seasoned with pickled bleaks and virgin olive oil.

Brenzone sul Garda has unforgettable spots to bike or hike close to some of Verona’s most spectacular natural settings. Used by generations of woodcutters and shepherds, several routes up Mount Baldo offer panoramic views of the lake. A chair lift at Prada provides a quicker ascent for anyone who wants to avoid climbing up the mountain. Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, paragliding, kitesurfing, mountain biking and trekking are some of the many sports possible in Brenzone, making it one of Italy’s premier leisure destinations. There are also plenty of camping sites nestled in olive and chestnut groves, along peaceful lakeshores and surrounded by hillside forests.
