The Isola del Trimelone (in English, Island of Trimelone),is a stunning location a few hundred meters off the northeastern shore of lake Garda. Like everything in and around lake Garda, Isola del Trimelone possesses a rich history. Used for centuries by the locals during turbulent times, and later being re-purposed by the military in both world wars, the island has developed a certain mystique. The surrounding lake has even been searched for gold and other treasures said to have been hidden by Benito Mussolini. It is one of five islands in lake Garda; Isola del Garda, Isola San Biagio, Isola di Trimelone, Isola di Sogno and Isola dell’Olivo. The latter three islands are all situated near the north-eastern shore of the lake. Due to its former uses as a military installation, the Island of Trimelone itself is off limits to the public. The prohibition is in place for public safety. Still, it remains a popular attraction in the area and a place often viewed by sightseers traveling the lake by boat.

The isolation of the island has allowed a rich environment to foster. Unique Italian elders, brambles, oleanders, poplars, and groundsel populate this botanical paradise.
