Some museums at lake Garda and around

Lake Garda is an ideal spot for a short break or longer holiday thanks to its beautiful scenery and wealth of fantastic attractions. This area of Italy has many fascinating museums that are fun to visit for all the family. Wherever you are staying in this region, you are sure to find a museum to inspire and interest you, and here are some of the best:

Natural History Museum of Malcesine
With its lovely setting inside the Scaliger Castle of Malcesine, this engaging museum has many impressive exhibits exploring the plant life of the Mount Baldo and Lake Garda region. One of the highlights of the collection is the famous drawings of the lake produced by Goethe during his "Italian Journey".

The Museum of the Lake in Cassone
The Museum of the Lake opened relatively recently and is located in Cassone, a small village just 4km outside of Malcesine. Helping visitors to discover more about the hidden history of this wonderful area, its displays include ancient everyday items and fishing tools that have been found locally.

Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera
This hillside estate overlooks Lake Garda and was once the home of Italian writer Gabriele d'Annunzio who lived here between 1922 and 1938. The many attractions here include the beautiful villa itself, a war museum, tiered gardens and even a full sized battleship! Visitors will love to explore the lovely property with its many interesting knick knacks and details that belonged to its former occupant, including such bizarre items as a coffin shaped bed!

MART Museum
The MART Museum (or Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto) is home to many stunning contemporary artworks including those produced by internationally renowned artists Fortunato Depero, Carlo Carra and Giorgio Morandi. The main site of the museum is in Trento, however Fortunato Depero's house in Rovereto is also a part of the Museum. The museum's collection comprises over 15,000 exhibits including sculptures, engravings, drawings and paintings.

MAG Museo Alto Garda
Located inside a medieval castle, this museum is home to an art gallery displaying beautiful local landscapes, an archeology exhibit featuring local finds and a section devoted to the history of the region. There are many interactive activities to entertain families and the climb up to the Keep is an absolute must for its enhanting views over the Lake and the city itself.
