Sailing at the lake

Lake Garda is the perfect place to sail whether you are a beginner or not. It has a constant wind throughout the day with the air provided by l'Ora and il Peler. Many types of sailing can be organised for you on the lake. Riva is one of the most popular places on the lake to sail from and you will see many yachts moored in this part of the lake.

You can see many types of sailing boats from dinghy's to larger wooden boats which can all be used to learn in or chartered.

The lake can be an ideal place to learn to sail from and there are many boat hire and places that you can have tuition from to suit all ages from those who are young right up to adults. There are dinghy courses that can be arranged for children and beginners. The more advanced sailors can take part in performance lessons and have advanced lessons organised for them.

Lake Garda has many sailing events that take place on the lake with it being a practice area for many classes of boat and past medal winners and current Olympic sailors have been here. Qualification regattas are also held around the lake and you will be able to see 49er, Laser, Finn, and sports boat partaking.

There are many sailing clubs and ports around that you can take your own boat to or hire a boat to go on a charter holiday. You can also go on a short-day course. The Yachting Club Torri is one the oldest sailing clubs and is a member of the Italian Sailing Federation. Athletes from the sailing centre at Brenzone have represented Italy at the Olympic games several times and the club has also organised many important regattas that take place on the lake.

For a truly memorable experience you can either charter the Siora Veronica a barge built in 1926 for an event during the day or night or else you can go on a day trip around the island for a day which will take around eight hours to complete. You can also go out for an hour or a half day too. This amazing two mast boat was restored in 2001 and now resides in the port of Malcesine a picturesque tourist spot to the east.
